Overview

We anticipate a normal in-person program.

Opportunity Description

Participants  in the program must comply with the public health requirements established by Cornell University. When offers are made, the program will notify students if there are any specific requirements in force at that moment, with the caveat that these may change before the start of, or in the course of, the program.

What

Up to twelve undergraduate Research Assistantships to join a vibrant research community at Cornell's Department of Astronomy and the Cornell Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science.

To be eligible you must:

  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
    • Please note that our NSF grant does not allow us to accept applications from students who are not U.S. Citizens or permanent residents.
  • Have completed at least one year of undergraduate academic training by June 2024. Your graduation date shouldn't be any earlier than the end of the 2024 fall semester or quarter at your school.

When

Summer 2024 - 10 week program

Tentative program dates: Monday, June 3, 2024 to Friday, August 9, 2024. Firm dates will be announced by February 28.

To get the most out of the program, it is best if you begin and end when the program does, but please let us know if you need accommodation due to your academic calendar. Dates may be adjusted if there is a conflict.

Deadline to apply: February 5, 2024 at 5 pm EST.

Please note: The selection process begins immediately after the deadline is due. We can't accept late applications or supporting materials. Make sure you complete your application and that we get your letters of recommendation on time!

Housing

REU students are encouraged to stay at University co-op housing, but if selected, you will have a choice whether to elect other kinds of accommodation, such as a dorm or off-campus.
