Overview
CALS GLOBAL FELLOWS
Independent International Internship Application
The CALS Global Fellows Program supports CALS undergraduate students from any major in pursuit of challenging, professionally-focused summer internships and research placements that enhance and complement their career goals and academic progress, while enriching their undergraduate experience with diverse cultural and international immersion.
Occasionally students are able to find international internships on their own but need the support of a Cornell program through vetting, logistics or financial. In these instances, CALS undergraduate students may apply to be part of the Global Fellows Program. Funding assistance up to $3500 may be available.
Acceptance to the program is competitive and a limited number of students are selected each year.
Students who are accepted into the CALS Global Fellows Program will be required to complete 4 parts of the program:
- An in-person 7-week, Spring (session 2) pre-engagement 1 credit course ALS 2300, focusing on health and safety, cultural awareness, logistics and more.
- A continuous 7–8-week internship or research placement in an international setting
- A 7-week, 1 credit post-engagement course in the first half of the Fall 2026 semester (ALS/GDEV 3105)
- Poster Symposium in Fall 2026 (October 2026)
Information Session:
- Visit the CALS Engaged Symposium on Thursday, October 23 from 5-6pm in Mann B75 to learn more and see posters from the most recent CALS GFP interns.
Placement Opportunities:
CALS has reserved up to 2 placement opportunities for students who have secured their own international internship but would like to have their internship as part of the CALS Global Fellows Program. There are many reasons why a student would like this option including:
- Access to potential funding to help support international travel
- Logistical support from a Cornell program, including Cornell's Health and Safety
- Access to Cornell's travel insurance program
- Access to the CALS pre and post internship curriculum which helps prepare students for their experience
- 2 academic credits towards their degree for completions of the pre and post course (ALS 2300 & ALS 3105)
