This program has limited capacity. Only 6 students will be selected, with priority given to first-years and sophomores.

Opportunity Description

The TeamWork Virtual International Program, led by the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, is a flexible part-time virtual international experience program that brings together small multidisciplinary teams of 6 students from select universities around the world to collaborate on project provided by a global organization.

Who will be participating?

For Spring 2025, students from the following institutions will be participating in TeamWork:

  • ILR School, Cornell University
  • Shanghai Jiao Tong University
  • Stellenbosch University
  • University of Warwick

What will the projects focus on?

Projects will be provided by organizations from around the world and from a wide range of sectors.  Prior knowledge or experience is not necessary to be assigned to a particular sector.  Students applying to this program will rank the sectors and types of projects in which they are interested in their order of preference; however, placement in a specific sector or on a specific type of project cannot be guaranteed.

What are some sample past projects?

Afghanistan-based charity
Project: Examine why street working children in Algeria and India cannot access education and the feasibility of replicating an existing Afghanistan program in these countries.
Mexico-based ecological company
Project: Help to create a mangrove research center that provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the conservation of mangroves through the promotion of science and a better understanding of their importance.
World-leading consultancy company
Project: Explore applications of blockchain, web3, and metaverse (innovative internet technology) on FMCG organizations to help with their growth and to determine to what extent these applications affect sustainability and potential survival of these firms.

What is unique about this program?

  • Open to all class years, but priority given to ILR first-years and sophomores;
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team of students from around the world;

Program Dates

One compulsory induction workshop: Date TBD (early February 2025)

One virtual workshop session available for all Teamwork students: Dates TBD (between February 10th-24th, 2025).  

Virtual TeamWork Experience: March 3rd-28th, 2025 (minimum of 10 hours per week)

*Only students who complete the mandatory intercultural training workshop will be eligible to move forward and receive a team and organization placement.  

Eligibility

Review the "Requirements" tab for general program eligibility.  Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and applications will close if all spots are filled prior to the application deadline.  When considering students for acceptance, in addition to ensuring that an applicant meets the general eligibility requirements, strength of application and applicant background will also be taken into consideration to align with TeamWork's goal of bringing together diverse teams to work together on a project.  Students also have to meet with the program advisor as part of the application process during which a brief, informal interview will be conducted with questions related to the TeamWork program.  Responses to these questions will also be taken into consideration as part of the applicant review process. 

Note: ILR students participating in another ILR Spring program are not eligible to apply to TeamWork.

How do I apply?*

1. Meet with one of the program advisors in ILR to discuss your plans and eligibility (Becky Baines or Tamara Ingram.  As part of the meeting, there will be a brief, informal interview with questions related to the TeamWork program. Note: Students can submit the application and schedule this meeting after having submitted the application. It is not necessary to meet prior to submitting the application.
