Overview
The mission of the Scheinman Institute is to study the causes of workplace conflict, develop methods and cultures for managing it, and provide education and training to help individuals and organizations navigate workplace conflict. There are approximately 22 resident and extension faculty and staff affiliated with the Institute working primarily in Ithaca and NYC. While they are requesting this student work specifically on an individual faculty research project, the nature of the project work is closely related to the work undertaken at the Scheinman Institute and the student could connect with other work happening there.
The research objective is exploring how labor arbitrators’ decision-making was impacted by the pandemic. I have over 100 labor arbitration cases that need to be read, thematically coded, and analyzed. I have been working with a PhD student to develop the theoretical and coding framework, and so an undergraduate student would be able to hit the ground running on this project. The student would also assist with writing a literature review and the results.
