Overview
ILR High Road New York is a statewide program that aims to teach ILR students practical methods for civic engagement and leadership through economic justice, evidence-based policy, and strategic development that creates opportunity for community members to share in prosperity. The Summer 2025 New York City (NYC) High Road Fellowship Program will run from June 2nd to August 1st, 2025. Students intern in person with various NYC partner organizations and will participate in weekly cohort workshops focused on critical reflection and peer-to-peer collaboration and networking and learning opportunities with guest speakers will be offered at ILR's NYC office on Lexington Avenue. All interns will be paid and need-based subsidized housing will be available.

The High Road New York intern can expect to gain experience along several possible tracks, either gaining valuable labor and management expertise as they embed in our human resources department or exposure to high-visibility cases in criminal justice for those preparing for legal careers. Those seeking careers in public service can expect to learn and work in the public-facing facets of the office, including community relations, intergovernmental affairs, press and communications and executive support.
The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office is seeking motivated and dedicated individuals for its High Road New York internship program. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students interested in civics, criminal justice, and human resources to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic governmental environment.
Responsibilities include:
Legal: Assist in duties that may include: attending trials, assisting in trial preparation; conducting and analyzing legal research; preparing and compiling documents and financial data and listening to and transcribing Rikers calls and wire taps.
Human Resources: Prepare employment packages, participate in job fairs and recruitment on behalf of the agency, assist with filing and data entry and liaise with various bureaus of the office on behalf of human resources.
Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on current legal issues, legislative initiatives, and policy matters relevant to the Brooklyn community. Provide comprehensive analyses to support the District Attorney in public meetings and events.
Community Outreach: Collaborate with community organizations and local leaders to enhance public awareness of the work of the District Attorney’s Office. Assist in organizing outreach events, workshops, and educational initiatives.
Intergovernmental Affairs: Assist in building and maintaining relationships with local, state, and federal government agencies. Monitor and report on legislative developments that may impact the District Attorney’s Office.
Communications: Work to communicate the work of the District Attorney’s Office by assisting in the drafting of press releases, the developing of strategic communications, maintaining public facing platforms and the gathering of relevant news.
Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks, including document preparation, data entry, and maintaining organized records. Provide support in scheduling meetings, handling phone inquiries, and other office-related duties.
