Academics

All students who are going to India through the ILR India Global Service Learning (GSL) at SVYM Program are required to complete an ILR pre-departure course ILRIC 4260, a 1.5-credit, graded course designed to prepare students for their field experiences in India.  The course prepares students for life abroad, appreciating cultural diversity, health and safety, gender issues, politics and issues surrounding development work.

Details about the course will be shared with students who are selected to the GSL program.  Please note that the registrar will enroll participants into the course after students have been selected to the India Program.

(Will be confirmed) In spring 2024, the course will be held on Wednesdays, 2:45-4:00pm.  . This course is mandatory with no exceptions. 

In addition to the ILRIC 4260,  students are encouraged to enroll in the language class KANAD 1100: Elements of Kannada Language and Culture.  This class will meet once a week, typically on Mondays, 3:00-3:50pm, during the spring semester.
