Agriculture in Developing Nations I (IARD 4020) - this course will acquaint you with major issues and challenges in international agriculture and rural development, with a focus on India.  It will demonstrate how such challenges are being addressed in India.  Lectures and discussions will establish the global and regional contexts for sustainable agricultural and rural development and focus on development challenges in Asia.  This course may be taken as a stand-along course.  However, IARD 4020 is primarily a preparatory course for student selected to participate in the spring semester course Agriculture in the Developing Nations II (IARD 6020), which includes a field trip to India during the January intersession.  A final term paper on a topic of choice is expected.

Agriculture in Developing Nations II (IARD 6020) - is a learning trip of hands-on study of agriculture in India, thus providing inspiration for students pursuing applied professions in plant sciences and related majors.  Students will travel to Chennai, Ooty, and Coimbatore within India as part of experiential learning during the winter intersession and are expected to write a group paper about their experiences on specific topic of interest and will give group presentations to other 6020 class members in the spring semester.

The trip will be lead by faculty from International Programs, Food Science, Horticulture and Sathguru Management Consultants, along with two major Indian universities.  Trip will take place January 2 - 18, 2020.
