Dyson Grand Challenges Impact Internship:

The Dyson Grand Challenges Program team will serve as a liaison between the intern and the internship host. The intern, a student employee of Cornell University, will focus on the outlined duties working with a mentor from the Village at Ithaca. This opportunity is exclusively available to Dyson undergraduates.

Term:

The internship will take place during Cornell University's summer break, lasting approximately 12 weeks. The exact start and end dates are flexible.  On average, the intern should expect to work approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Technology Management and Data Analytics Internship: The Village at Ithaca

Internship Purpose: 

This internship focuses on enhancing operational efficiency by modernizing The Village Ithaca's communication and data systems. The intern will work on transitioning from traditional landline systems to Voice-Over-IP (VoIP), improving communication flexibility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the intern will focus on streamlining data-gathering processes, particularly in managing participant and volunteer information using Little Green Light (LGL), while exploring ways to improve data accessibility and integration.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and evaluate various VoIP providers and assess their suitability for the organization.
  • Analyze the cost savings, implementation challenges, and overall benefits of switching from landline systems to VoIP.
  • Develop recommendations for a smooth transition to VoIP and create an actionable plan for implementation.
  • Analyze the current use of Little Green Light (LGL) for tracking participants and volunteers.
  • Identify inefficiencies in the current LGL system, such as manual entry errors or data accessibility issues.
  • Propose and implement improvements to enhance the data-gathering process and increase efficiency.
  • Research and recommend automation tools or integrations that can streamline participant and volunteer tracking.
  • Implement process improvements to ensure data flows seamlessly between systems and is easily accessible.
  • Create a detailed report summarizing research findings, proposed solutions, and their anticipated impact.
  • Develop step-by-step guides for the VoIP transition and Little Green Light (LGL) optimization.
  • Present findings and provide recommendations for long-term improvements in both communication and data systems.

Qualifications:

  • Strong background in data analytics, technology management, and operational optimization.
  • Proficient in researching and analyzing software or system solutions, including VoIP and CRM systems.
  • Experience with workflow automation and process improvement tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present findings clearly and create actionable documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying system inefficiencies and proposing solutions.
  • Familiarity with tools like Little Green Light (LGL) or similar data management systems.
  • Basic understanding of VoIP systems and their implementation in an organizational setting.
