Opportunity Description

Host Organization: Ashoka University 
Location: Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Sonipat, India 

Ashoka University is a Cornell Global Hubs partner that hosts 4,500 domestic and international students. The university offers research placements and internships within their many thematic and research centers on topics like sustainability, biology, health, science policy, writing and communication, and more. 

Successful applicants will participate in the Ashoka International Summer Research Programme (AISRP). During the program, students will work closely with faculty mentors and research groups to carry out cutting edge research. Students will be exposed to a broad range of concepts and research techniques to advance their capabilities. 

In summer 2025, students may participate in the following research projects. Projects in bold are described in detail on the AISRP website.

  • Access to health insurance and health behavior (Department of Economics)
  • Documentary on environmental history of India--as unearthed by paleo-sciences (Department of Environmental Studies)
  • Impact of diet on behavioral traits and aging (Department of Biology)
  • Impact of free-ranging dogs on a carnivore community in the Indian Himalaya (Department of Environmental Studies)
  • Impact of habitat degradation on small mammal microbiome (Trivedi School of Biosciences)
  • Mapping diversity in viral epitopes recognized by human CD8 T cells (Department of Biology)
  • Measure the magnetic hysteresis loop of a magnetic hetero structure using MOKE magnetometry (Department of Physics)
  • Optimising workflow for tissue specific knockdown of cytoskeletal genes in C. elegans (Department of Biology)
  • Quantitative and economic social choice behavior in zebrafish (Department of Biology)
  • Trustworthy AI (Department of Computer Science)
  • Understanding elephant vocalizations (Department of Environmental Studies)
  • Understanding domestic violence using the lens of complex trauma (Department of Psychology)

Funding 

You will receive an award totaling at least $3,000 for airfare, transportation, and living expenses. A portion of the stipend may be paid directly to the in-country host to support housing, food, and local transportation.
