Opportunity Description

Host organization: Center for Khmer Studies
Location: Siem Reap, Cambodia

The Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) promotes research, teaching, and public service in the social sciences, arts, and humanities in Cambodia and the Mekong region. Since its opening in 2001, CKS has specialized in the preservation of Cambodian and Southeast Asian history and culture. Their work is a response to the country's crisis in the preservation of literary heritage following decades of civil war and the targeted destruction of its educational resources. 

Under the supervision and guidance of the head librarian, you will: 

  • Develop ideas for library workshops to expand its digital presence; 
  • Explore open-access websites and recent publications on Southeast Asia for potential inclusion into the CKS library; Develop activities for the CKS Children's Library;
  • Work with the CKS Rare Books Collection Assist with other tasks in the library as needed;
  • Support the research of CKS junior fellows Assist in editing Junior Resident Fellows’ research papers;
  • Develop ideas for library workshop under the theme of Digital Library Development form Cambodian libraries.

CKS is looking for students who have taken coursework in Southeast Asian studies and have experience and interest in research, writing, and library work. Reading and writing Khmer language is preferred, but not required.

Funding

All Global Interns receive an award totaling at least $3,000 for airfare, transportation, and living expenses. A portion of the stipend may be paid directly to the in-country host to support housing, food, and local transportation.
