Overview

Opportunity Description

Host organization: Center for Khmer Studies
Location: Siem Reap, Cambodia

Interested in media, communications, or digital storytelling? This internship with the Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) offers hands-on experience in social media, newsletters, visual content creation, and event communications, and more.

CKS promotes research, teaching and public service in the social sciences, arts, and humanities in Cambodia and the Mekong region. Since its opening in 2001, CKS has specialized in the preservation of Cambodian and Southeast Asian history and culture. Their work is a response to the country's crisis in the preservation of literary heritage following decades of civil war and the targeted destruction of its educational resources.

As a communications intern, you may do the following work:

  • Prepare draft social media posts and contribute to the monthly organizational newsletter.
  • Produce graphics, edit photos, and assist with the filming/editing of short video clips for use across various digital channels.
  • Help organize and maintain the organization’s digital media library (photos/videos).
  • Provide logistical and technical assistance for online and in-person events (e.g., monitoring the chat/Q&A, hosting on Zoom/Facebook Live).
  • Capture photos and video footage of events and programs for immediate social media use and organizational archiving.
  • Assist with proofreading Junior Resident Fellows' research papers and publications.

CKS is looking for a student currently studying communications, journalism, marketing, media studies, or a related field. Successful candidates should be open to learning new skills and gaining new experiences, with adaptability to new cultures and environments.

Funding

All Global Interns receive an award totaling at least $3,000 for airfare, transportation, and living expenses. A portion of the stipend may be paid directly to the in-country host to support housing, food, and local transportation.
