Opportunity Description

The Dyson Grand Challenges Program team will serve as a liaison between the intern and the internship host. The intern, a student employee of Cornell University, will focus on the outlined duties working with a mentor from the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC). This opportunity is exclusively available to Dyson undergraduates.

Term:

The internship will take place during Cornell University’s summer break. The anticipated dates are May 18, 2026 – August 14, 2026, though timing is flexible. On average, the intern should expect to work approximately 10–20 hours per week, totaling around 150 hours for the summer.

Teen Summit Planning & Community Engagement Intern

Internship Purpose:

This internship supports the planning and execution of a two-day Teen Summit in fall 2026 for marginalized teens in Ithaca, with a focus on investing, microbusiness, and social engagement. The intern will help GIAC organize logistics, partners, funding, and programming to create a meaningful experience that fosters community, exploration, and skill development for participants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning the Teen Summit, including location, funding, presenters, and theme development
  • Support community engagement strategies and outreach to ensure teen participation
  • Develop marketing and social media content to promote the summit
  • Coordinate logistics for the Teen Summit programing
  • Collaborate with GIAC staff and partners to ensure a smooth and impactful event
  • Contribute to post-event evaluation and recommendations for future programming

Qualifications:

  • Program Planning & Strategy: Ability to support the design, logistics, and execution of youth-focused events or programs, translating goals into actionable plans for meaningful participant experiences.
  • Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Comfortable collaborating with teens, community partners, and staff to foster participation, co-create programming, and ensure inclusivity for marginalized populations.
  • Marketing & Communications: Experience or interest in social media, marketing, or event promotion, with the ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Research Synthesis & Storytelling: Skilled at synthesizing program goals, community needs, and participant feedback into actionable recommendations or insights.
  • Independent & Remote Work: Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage time effectively while collaborating in hybrid or remote settings.
  • Mission Alignment & Curiosity: Strong interest in youth development, social engagement, entrepreneurship, and community-based initiatives, with a willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute to real-world impact.
