Opportunity Description

The Dyson Grand Challenges Program team will serve as a liaison between the intern and the internship host. The intern, a student employee of Cornell University, will focus on the outlined duties working with a mentor from the Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA). This opportunity is exclusively available to Dyson undergraduates.

Term:

The internship will take place during Cornell University’s summer break. The anticipated dates are June 15, 2026 – August 14, 2026, though timing is flexible. On average, the intern should expect to work approximately 15–20 hours per week, totaling around 150 hours for the summer.

Engagement Strategy & Implementation Intern

Internship Purpose:

This internship supports the translation of research and stakeholder insights into actionable strategies that strengthen the pipeline of young (18–29), homegrown entrepreneurs in the Adirondack North Country. Building on prior Grand Challenges work, the intern will help ANCA develop an implementable plan to support the next generation of entrepreneurs interested in starting or taking over small and micro businesses across the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Translate the Grand Challenges project team’s final report of findings and recommendations into an actionable strategy, roadmap, or implementation plan
  • Support community engagement planning and stakeholder-informed strategy development
  • Conduct or synthesize customer discovery or consumer behavior insights related to young entrepreneurs and business succession
  • Contribute to marketing and communications strategies that encourage interest in small business ownership or transfer
  • Develop practical, implementation-ready materials that may include strategy documents, outreach plans, program concepts, or other tools aligned with project findings
  • Collaborate with ANCA staff and regional partners to ensure recommendations are feasible, contextually grounded, and ready for implementation

Qualifications:

  • Strategy & Research Synthesis: Ability to translate research findings, stakeholder input, and project materials into actionable strategies, roadmaps, and implementation plans.
  • Marketing & Communications: Experience or interest in developing clear, engaging content and outreach strategies to connect with young entrepreneurs, business owners, and community stakeholders.
  • Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Comfortable collaborating with rural communities, regional partners, and stakeholders to ensure strategies are contextually grounded and actionable.
  • Insights & Customer Discovery: Skilled in conducting or synthesizing consumer and entrepreneurial insights to inform strategy and program development.
  • Independent & Remote Work: Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage time effectively while collaborating in a small, remote or hybrid team environment.
  • Mission Alignment & Curiosity: Strong interest in small business development, local economic resilience, and values-driven economic development, with a willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute to real-world impact projects.
