Overview

Opportunity Description

Apply the principles of leadership-in-service as you join a Cape Town community organization, school, or nongovernmental organization to make a positive impact.

What is unique about this program?

  • Enroll in a fully integrated, holistic service program that combines coursework and service to the community with integrated activities designed to support the academic service-learning goals, both in and out of the classroom
  • Design and implement a capstone project based upon community needs and personal interest
  • Meet with and discuss current South African economic, social, and political challenges with experts in the field
  • Discover the rich history and culture of the South African people through visits to landmarks and sites of importance

This program allows students to fulfill educational and personal goals, and build relationships in communities where learning takes place. Supported by coursework and skill-building, students meet community needs and develop civic responsibility. Reflection is built in to help students fully integrate all they have learned.

How do I choose among programs?

  • See the Office of Global Learning’s “Selecting a Program” page for information on program types and considerations
  • Use the search features on the Experience Cornell  Opportunities page to filter for programs approved by your college, and by particular subject areas
  • Go to the “Get Advice” page for information on drop-in advising hours, scheduling an advising appointment, returned student contacts, and college advisors for study abroad
  • Find out about upcoming events, check out FAQs, and read stories from returned study abroad students
