Princeton in Africa develops young leaders committed to Africa's advancement by offering yearlong fellowship opportunities with a variety of organizations that work across the African continent. Princeton in Africa matches talented and passionate college graduates with organizations working across Africa for yearlong service placements. Our program is open to graduating seniors and young alumni from any college or university accredited in the U.S. Our Fellows have helped improve education and public health, source fresh water and alternative energy, increase family incomes, and so much more.
This year’s Fellows will be working in the following fields:

- Education & Youth Capacity Building
- Environment & Conservation

- International Humanitarian Aid & Development
- Public & Community Health
Princeton in Africa fellows:
- Serve in yearlong fellowships in various fields
- Act as everyday ambassadors in a time when building bridges between cultures is critical
- Inform, inspire, and engage a wide network of friends, family, and interested individuals about Africa today
Princeton in Africa creates an excellent opportunity for both partner organizations and Fellows, where organizations enjoy access to an exceptionally motivated and talented group of young people, and Fellows gain a unique experience in Africa that translates into a lifelong commitment to African affairs and service.
Princeton in Africa is committed to offering opportunities on a need-blind basis. While an affiliate of Princeton University, we are nevertheless independent and not funded by the University. We rely on the continued generosity of corporations, foundations, and individuals to make these fellowships possible.
Costs:
PIAF/partner organizations cover:
- on-the-ground expenses including housing and living stipend
- group medical and evacuation insurance
- pre-departure orientation for all fellows
- PIAF operating costs
Fellows should expect to cover:
- round-trip airfare to/from post
- some pre-departure medical expenses, sundries and recreational travel
Eligibility:
- Young alumni and graduating seniors from any non-profit college or university in the United States are eligible to apply. Prior experience in Africa is not a prerequisite.
- If you are invited for an interview, you must be able for one of the interview sessions
- Candidates who are selected for a fellowship MUST attend PiAf's pre-departure orientation program, which is on Princeton's campus

You must complete and submit the online application AND submit the following materials in order for your application to be complete. Your application is not complete until we have received:
- Completed online application form including your resume, a photo, and an unofficial copy of your transcript from each institution you attended
- An official transcript from each undergrad/grad institution you attended
- A letter of recommendation (submitted through the LOR form, www.princetoninafrica.org/LOR/)
- Application fee of $50 USD

Although the complete list of fellowships will not be finalized until after the application deadline, please take a look at the list of current fellowship organizations, the Fellows Reports Database, and the outline of expected sectors and roles to get an idea of the types of positions that will be offered.
Fellowships are 12 months long with Fellows beginning their work between June and September 2nd, 2019, and will complete their fellowships between June and September, twelve months after their start date.
What else is required?
Should you be invited for an interview, you must be available for one of the interview sessions. Candidates are responsible for all costs associated with traveling to Princeton, NJ for interviews. We encourage applicants invited to interview to attend one of the interview sessions on Princeton’s campus, but interviews may take place virtually (during specific time slots) for those who cannot make it to Princeton. More information about interviews will be provided to those who are invited to interview for fellowships.
Those candidates who are selected for a fellowship MUST attend PiAf’s pre-departure orientation program.
