Overview

Opportunity Description

Research on New York’s Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act In  July 2019, New York State legislators passed the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act (S.6578), which includes provisions for overtime pay, day of rest, collective bargaining, and access to workers compensation. Yet, the content of the law has been difficult to understand. In particular, farmworkers have requested that the provisions for “paid family leave” in the FLFLPA be further clarified. As part of this effort, research fellows on this team will write, produce, and edit an animated video that further outlines and explains these terms in the law. Research fellows will be required to work in collaboration with various Central New York farmworker organizations and partners to clarify the content of the video, and will also be expected to field-test the video with farmworkers and revise their work based on farmworkers’ feedback. Applicants must have strong proficiency in Spanish. Students will work with ILR Professor Verónica Martínez-Matsuda.
