Overview

Opportunity Description

The ILR Undergraduate Research Fellows Program provides ILR undergraduates with the opportunity to work with a professor during academic year 2024-2025. This program was developed in response to numerous requests we have received from undergraduates for research opportunities and in the hope that it will facilitate one-on-one student/faculty interactions. Students participating in this program will receive an hourly pay of $17 per hour for up to 10 hours a week. Awards will be made on a one semester basis with renewal possible for the second semester.  Students may not earn credit for the research project during the semester or year they are being paid as a research assistant.

Building Cultures of Allyship

The undergraduate research fellows (URFs) will work on projects related to diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and individual engagement in allyship behaviors within the workplace. For example, one project examines broadly how employees use their voice to act as allies within an organization and the psychological processes that influence a potential ally to speak up against discrimination. The research fellow will be asked to help with literature reviews, various aspects of collecting data (e.g., recruiting participants, running lab studies, finding survey measures), and coding of participant data for themes related to the research question. For example, previous research assistants read through and coded participant’s responses to survey questions about how they defined allyship to understand the differences between how potential allies and targets of allyship conceptualize effective allyship. The Fellows for this project will be co-sponsored by ILR WIDE. – with Professor Emily Zitek
