Overview
Host Organization: Imperial College London
Location: London, United Kingdom
The International Research Opportunities Programme (IROP) is a summer research program with Imperial College London, a Cornell Global Hubs partner, that provides engineering students at Cornell with international research experience.
Projects are available for students studying civil and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering, materials science and engineering, and mechanical and aerospace engineering. We help match you to a faculty member and research project that aligns with your goals within Imperial's corresponding departments: civil and environmental engineering, materials, and aeronautics.
As an intern, you'll be a part of a cohort of summer research students from around the world and participate in special events for IROP students.
Program Dates
- Monday, June 29, 2026: IROP begins with an orientation session to welcome all participants, followed by a lab induction in departments.
- August 8–9, 2026: Check out of accommodation.
- August 10–21, 2026: Research project continued remotely from home country.
- August 22, 2026: IROP ends.
Exact dates for each project are confirmed each year. Students selected for IROP must be available for the entire period. The final one to two weeks of the project will be completed virtually to enable students to return to Cornell for the fall semester.
Funding
You will receive an award to cover the estimated costs for airfare, transportation, and living expenses. A portion of the stipend may be paid directly to the in-country host to support housing, food, and local transportation.
