Selection Criteria

Information pertaining to the grant program selection criteria can be found online here.  Please read the selection criteria and application instructions thoroughly, and allow time to prepare your research proposal carefully alongside your faculty mentor before applying.

Research Hours and Wages

Research hours, schedules, and wages amounts are to be negotiated and agreed upon together by the student and the faculty mentor.  Student research position details should align with Cornell's Student Employment wages and job classification guidelines.

Students who receive an undergraduate research award typically work on their research projects approximately 10 hours each week during an academic semester or approximately 30 hours a week during the summer term.  However, hours may vary depending on the student’s schedule and the needs of the research program.  If awarded funding, research hours and student appointment details are managed by the faculty mentor's department.  The Office of Inclusive Excellence does not manage details beyond grant requirements.

Grant Program Requirements

Student grant recipients are required to submit both a written report on their research and an online evaluation of their experience to the Office of Inclusive Excellence at the end of the award period.  Students are also required to present their work in an oral or poster presentation either on campus or at an external conference or presentation event.

Faculty mentors are also required to submit an online evaluation of the research experience.
