Opportunity Description

Study Cognitive Science in English at German university with an international reputation for research and teaching in this interdisciplinary field.

What is unique about the Cornell Global Program in Osnabrueck?

  • At Osnabrueck University, the interdisciplinary field of Cognitive Science exists under one academic roof.  It pulls together psychology, information science, neurobiology, philosophy, linguistics, human development, and computer science.
  • OU’s entire degree program in Cognitive Science is offered in English, so you have a range of courses and English-speaking labs.
  • OU is also home to the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.
  • Live in dorms with local students.
  • Students who have not studied German can take a language class when they arrive.  Previous language study is always welcome.
  • In order to receive credit toward the Cognitive Science minor at Cornell, please review potential courses with the faculty representative for the minor prior to enrolling in courses at Osnabrueck.

What is unique about Osnabrueck?

Home to 28,000 students, two major universities, and countless bicycles, Osnabrueck is a great student city with restaurants, cafes, and a vibrant art scene. The city was founded in the middle ages as an important trading route linking the coast of northern Europe to the rest of the Europe. The historic city center was restored following massive destruction in WWII, leaving a charming walkable downtown. Osnabrueck is in northwest Germany and is on the train line between Amsterdam and Berlin, approx. 3 hours from each. The main university building is located downtown in a baroque castle.

How do I choose among programs?

  • See the Office of Global Learning’s “Selecting a Program” page for information on program types and considerations
  • Use the search features on the Experience Cornell  Opportunities page to filter for programs approved by your college, and by particular subject areas
  • Go to the “Get Advice” page for information on drop-in advising hours, scheduling an advising appointment, returned student contacts, and college advisors for study abroad
  • Find out about upcoming events, check out FAQs, and read stories from returned study abroad students

How do I apply?

Applying to study abroad is a two-step process. You may complete both steps simultaneously, but the Cornell approval process must be complete before your program advisor in the Office of Global Learning can submit any approval or nomination to the program.

  1. For Cornell Approval, click on the "Apply" button on this webpage. Applications are approved by the Office of Global Learning on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this page.
  2. For Program Admission, complete an external application directly on the program’s webpage, using the link in the “Snapshot” section. (Note: This deadline may be in advance of the general Cornell deadline for approval. Many programs fill by rolling admission.)
