Academics
This program is approved to count toward the Global Development internship requirement.
Students obtain a globally engaged and internationally focused unpaid internship in New York City, attend weekly seminar and colloquium and conduct a major research project. The goal of this course is to gain field experience in international affairs. Students will be able to demonstrate multicultural and interpersonal communication skills and become fluent in the current state of international relations including UN and affiliated organizations as well as international non-governmental organizations. In the research colloquium class, students are expected to write a full-length academic paper on a topic related to their internship. Classes are hosted at the SUNY Global Center in Midtown Manhattan.
Students will complete 12 - 15 semester credit hours with the following courses:
- 6-9 credit hours for the internship program (minimum 20 hours of internship per week)
- 3 credits Global Engagement seminar
- 3 credits Global Engagement Research colloquium
Internships & Service Learning
With assistance from the Program Director, students are expected to secure an internship minimum of 20 hours per week. The internships are expected to be relevant to international affairs in organizations that foster global engagement. In the research colloquium class, students write a full-length academic paper on a topic related to their internship.
Through a Consortium agreement (see cost tab), Cornell students will be placed in placeholder course at Cornell for 15-credit hours allowing students to remain active Cornell students while participating in this program.
