Key Responsibilities:
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Perform literature reviews on the value of ocean data for various applications across science, policy, private industry, fisheries, and community resilience.
- Collaborate with EDF staff and FVON partners to curate stories.
- Distill peer-reviewed research and technical results into concise, audience-friendly summaries.
- Develop communications materials (one-pagers, infographics, slide decks, social media posts, blogs, newsletter updates etc.) for stakeholders and potential users of FVON data in the “North Atlantic Arc”.
- Participate in advancing EDF’s organizational effectiveness and culture goals, so people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included and empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in ways that align with EDF values.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a degree program and demonstrated interest in communications, environmental justice, marine science and/or oceanography.
- Coursework in communications, business, international policy, and natural resource management is recommended.
- Experience in content creation (writing, graphics, multimedia, or web) using basic design or publishing tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress) is a plus.
- Ability to translate complex scientific or technical information into clear, engaging narratives. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative team environment or independently when projects are due. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds.
Location: Hybrid out of an EDF office in Austin, TX, Boston, MA, Boulder, CO, Raleigh, NC, San Francisco, CA, New York, NY or Washington, D.C with the option to be U.S. Remote. Intern supervisor is in Boston, MA. (Hybrid means must be physically present in location throughout internship, coming into the office an agreed number of days/week. US Remote means must be physically located in the US while working for the internship.)
Term: Summer 2026 (10 weeks)
Hours: Full-time (35 hr/week)
$7,000 stipend is provided.
