Key Responsibilities:
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Support the planning and day-of-event needs of Moms Clean Air Force programs with a particular focus on supporting D.C. engagements including the 2025 Play-In event where hundreds of advocates and families will gather to demand climate action. This will include lobbying elected officials, convening community members, coordinating high-profile speakers, and liaising with media partners.
- Plan and execute a social media campaign around a key issue and/or promote an upcoming event using Twitter/X, Facebook, and TikTok, as well as support community organizers across the country in building their social media presence.
- Assist community organizers and staff members in preparing for media interviews and events where media may be present, and support online and virtual event preparation and planning.
- Draft, edit, and contribute to public-facing materials including media alerts, press releases, blog posts, and articles related to our key issues around air pollution, climate action, petrochemical pollution, electric school buses, and more.
- Identify climate and health reporters in key media markets, and draft pitches to use in public engagement strategy and capacity working with media outlets.
- Participate in team meetings and check-ins and function as a fully integrated team member.
- Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a degree program and/or demonstrated interest in environmental, equity, and health issues.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in social media, marketing, branding, and traditional media.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in advocacy, organizing, and/or collaborating and coordinating professionally with media outlets at events on the ground.
- Experience in large-scale event planning (experience working with kids and families is a plus).
- Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team setting and while having the ability to work independently and ask for help and feedback when needed.
- Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated initiative and problem solving skills.
- Spanish language proficiency and ability to translate is a plus.
Location: Hybrid out of an EDF office in Boston, MA, New York, NY, or Washington D.C., with option to be U.S. Remote. Intern supervisor and many team members are in D.C. (Hybrid means must be physically present in location throughout internship, coming into the office an agreed number of days/week. US Remote means must be physically located in the US while working for the majority of the internship.)
Term: Summer 2025
Hours: Full-time (35 hr/week)
$7,000 stipend is provided.
