Key Responsibilities:
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Research on the potential for job creation in renewable energy sectors and other emerging industries, focusing on the necessary skills and education required for a successful transition.
- Work with EDF experts to analyze the impact of energy transition policies on labor markets, and identify opportunities for policy improvements that prioritize a just transition.
- Perform literature reviews on best practices and case studies related to workforce development, job creation, and just transition policies in the energy transition context.
- Contribute to writing a paper that synthesizes the findings of the analysis and literature review.
- Prepare short memos and presentations for dissemination of research and analysis to internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Contribute to developing an organization-wide position for advocacy on clean fuel deployment and sustainable waste management
- Provide support to the team in writing external-facing blogs, reports, and conference materials, as needed.
- Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a degree program and/or demonstrated interest in environmental policy, economics, sustainability studies, environmental engineering, urban planning, and/or other related disciplines.
- Coursework in Labor Economics, Energy Economics, and Environmental Economics is recommended.
- Experience in translating quantitative and qualitative research into policy-relevant insights.
- Basic proficiency in data analysis, report writing, and conducting technical literature reviews.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.
Location: Hybrid out of an EDF office in Boston, MA, New York, NY, Raleigh, NC, or Washington D.C., with option to be U.S. Remote. Intern supervisor is in Washington, D.C. and many team members are on the U.S. East Coast. (Hybrid means must be physically present in location throughout internship, coming into the office an agreed number of days/week. US Remote means must be physically located in the US while working for the majority of the internship.)
Term: Summer 2025
Hours: Full-time (35 hr/week)
$7,000 stipend is provided.
