All interns will be paid and need-based subsidized housing will be available.
The Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network Summer Internship 2024 is an opportunity to embed within a dynamic team of organizers and community education practitioners to advance domestic worker rights and improve domestic employer practices. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow seasoned organizers, participate in campaign actions, develop materials and engage the public in important conversations around care and care work.

Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network is a national organization of employers of nannies, house cleaners and home attendants with a strong chapter in New York City and a growing presence throughout the NYC metro area including in the State of New Jersey. Our mission is to build a just and caring economy starting in our homes and communities. We support employers of nannies, house cleaners, home care workers, and attendants, their families and allies to understand that their homes are workplaces. We organize people to demand dignity and fairness for domestic workers, and to win public investment in care for families, people with disabilities and older adults.
Hand in Hand has a two-pronged approach to movement building for domestic worker justice and related issues including women’s and immigrants’ rights, and racial and economic justice. Hand in Hand mobilizes employers in solidarity with domestic workers to win legislative change at all levels of government. Hand in Hand also educates employers with the aim of influencing employer practices and changing the work experience of domestic workers in their work settings.
Hand in Hand has 15 staff across the country with 4 in New York State including 2 in New York City. The New York City Chapter collaborates closely with a number of local partners including the NYC Coalition for Domestic Work, NDWA, Adikaar and the Carroll Gardens Association as well as other grassroots organizing groups including Make the Road New York. NYC HiH also has a deep pool of grassroots leaders who attend events and campaign actions and take leadership roles in educating employers around best employer practices.
