Web Accessibility Remediation Assistant
The Energy & Sustainability Office is seeking a student intern to provide assistance in the remediation of the Facilities and Campus Services (FCS) Energy and Sustainability and Cornell Sustainability Campus websites to ensure pdf’s conform to W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. See policy for details (Cornell Policy Web Accessibility Standards 5.12). Required remediation software training will be provided.
In this role, you will:
- Gain knowledge of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).
- Utilize accessibility tools to verify compliance for both websites and documents within them.
- Remediate PDF’s using Equinox PDF Accessibility Software to ensure they meet the accessibility requirements.
- Use Siteimprove web accessibility checker and Drupal Content Management System to remediate non PDF accessibility issues.
Qualifications.
The ideal candidate must be a proactive and a self-motivated individual who is able to work independently in a hybrid workplace. Willingness to learn more about assistive technologies, such as screen readers, and how to check documents for accessibility.
Fluency in Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
Preferred knowledge
Knowledge of Web Accessibility measure/standards/methods and PDF remediation a plus.
This is a part-time paid internship for current Cornell students beginning ASAP for a duration of 20hrs – 40hrs / week, $15/hour.
