The Cornell University Campus Sustainability Office  (CSO) is seeking a Sustainable Events Coordinator who wants to gain real world experience with sustainable event planning, integrating sustainability into procurement and business practices, coordinating campus outreach & engagement, and supporting sustainable change amongst student organizations and campus departments.

This position is open to Cornell graduate students or highly qualified undergraduate students for 20hrs/week during Summer 2023, continuing at 10hrs/week through the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Sustainable Events Coordinator will support Cornell University's Sustainable Events Program and develop programs aimed to equip students & employees to advance sustainability in campus events throughout the year. This includes hosting sustainable events workshops, consulting with student organizations & campus departments on best practices for sustainable event management, assisting with business integration, benchmarking progress, and more.

Position Details

  • Coordinate Cornell's Sustainable Events Program, including broadening campus adoption of the program, identifying opportunities for business integration, developing key resources, and more

  • Co-lead sustainable events workshops for students and employees

  • Consult with student organizations and campus departments to assist teams in identifying best practices for upcoming events

  • Assist with integrating sustainability into campus-wide  events 

  • Assist with hosting CSO events, including retreats, workshops, conferences, Sustainable Cornell Council events, and the annual Student Sustainability Awards

  • Analyze impact and effectiveness of sustainable events program to inform goal-setting and on-going planning

Additionally, you will:

  • Work with committed, talented team members to create opportunities promoted to tens of thousands of Cornellians
  • Create communications materials, including emails, advertisements, and graphics
  • Assist in creating opportunities to encourage sustainability leadership, innovation, and collaboration across campus
  • Research innovative engagement solutions, outreach and impact strategies, and new technology to enhance sustainability engagement, learning, and culture at Cornell University
  • Support Campus Sustainability Office staff with various projects as needed

Required Skills

  • Event management experience, including organizing, advertising, and/or hosting events
  • Knowledge of event management procedures and campus resources
  • Knowledge of Cornell's student organizations and campus departments
  • Strong administrative skills

Work Details

Pay: $15/hour for 20 hours/week during the summer, 10 hours/week during the academic year. Includes paid time for professional development and team building.

Location: The Campus Sustainability Office is located on Cornell's Ithaca campus. During the summer, this position can be fully remote with flexible hours. During the academic year, this position will be hybrid with both in-person and remote work. Meetings will be scheduled during business hours: M-F, 8am-5pm.
