Overview

Opportunity Description

The Learning Abroad Center at the University of Minnesota runs study abroad and international internship programs during the summer in multiple locations in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. Choose a program and register your summer study abroad plans with the Office of Global Learning.

What is unique about summer study?

  • Summer is a great time to take a “deep dive” to pursue a particular subject or work experience in a new place, particularly if you are unable to study abroad any other time.
  • Unless you are taking a summer course with Cornell faculty, when you study abroad in the summer you are not registered at Cornell. Make sure to follow your college’s procedures to transfer credit back to Cornell. Note, these are generally the same as transferring domestic credit to Cornell.
  • Financial aid is not available for summer study, but many programs offer scholarships. National scholarships such as the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship or the Boren Awards support STEM students who study in the summer. Also, check Cornell’s Off-Campus Opportunity Fund (OCOF) to see if you are eligible to apply for funds through OADI, Global Cornell, or Engaged Cornell.

How do I apply?

  1. Discuss any plans for transfer credit with your advisor/college.
  2. Apply directly to your program.
  3. Register your program destination and dates with Cornell using the “apply” button on this page.

Not only will Cornell be able to communicate with you in the event of an emergency, but you will have access to Cornell’s emergency assistance insurance and health and safety information.
