Host organization: K'allam'p

Location: Cotacachi, Ecuador

K’allam’p Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to regenerative agriculture, social ecology, and comprehensive resource management. The word "k'allam'p" has been used for thousands of years by the Kichwa peoples of the Andes to describe the relationship between social knowledge and the land.

As an intern, you'll help to document Indigenous agricultural practices to help integrate these practices into modern farming systems. You'll work closely with both local farmers and Indigenous communities to document agricultural methods and techniques.

You will document this knowledge and work with agricultural experts to integrate these practices into Kultural Ag. Systems Heritage (KASH) farming systems at the Chichupampa Clan demonstration farm. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain experience about sustainable farming practices, contribute to preserving Indigenous knowledge, and set up long-term test plots.

Interested students may take Kichwa private language classes outside of the internship. You may also apply for partial funding of language classes from Latin American and Caribbean Studies.

Funding

All Global Interns receive an award totaling at least $3,000 for airfare, transportation, and living expenses. A portion of the stipend may be paid directly to the in-country host to support housing, food, and local transportation.
