Overview
Host organization: Ghana Poultry Network (GAPNET)
Location: Accra, Ghana
GAPNET is a community-based organization that links rural communities with donor development partners and non-governmental organizations. They promote community entry techniques with development partners/donors and rural communities and promote the use of technologies in farming, forestation, and industries for the improvement of living conditions in deprived communities.
You may intern in one of three areas of GAPNET's work:
- Health: Interns in this area will identify a particular health-related challenge and research a health issue in their own area of expertise. They will then visit a Ghanaian medical school, health sites, and shadow medical professionals on their rounds to learn about Ghana's medical challenges and practices.
- Conservation and sustainability: Interns in this area will work with academic experts in the field of marine conservation and sustainability, community conservation practices, and the effect of climate change on coastal communities.
- Agriculture: Interns in this area will work at the Ghana Ministry of Agriculture and on local agricultural projects. Topics include agribusiness, value addition, challenges faced by farmers and government intervention, and extension services.
GAPNET is looking for candidates with an interest in Africa and experience in the field that they have chosen. You will work independently and with others, so adaptability to a new environment is important.

All Global Interns receive an award totaling at least $3,000 for airfare, transportation, and living expenses. A portion of the stipend may be paid directly to the in-country host to support housing, food, and local transportation.
