Opportunity Description

Host organization: Jadavpur University
Location: Kolkata, India

The School of Cultural Texts and Records is Jadavpur University's pioneering center in archiving, digitization, bibliography, textual studies, as well as book publication. Its activities extend to text, image and music archives, oral histories, and audiovisual records. 

As a digital humanities intern, you will assist with projects such as the following:

  • Sound recording and preservation
  • Working on modern Bengali manuscripts (choice of literature/cinema/ theater/sculpture)
  • Working with the Hindustan classical music archive
  • Working with the Comic Books in Bengal project 

You should have an interest in South Asian materials, particularly from Bengal, and/or in digital humanities. Knowledge of any South Asian language is preferred, but not required. 

Funding

All Global Interns receive an award totaling at least $3,000 for airfare, transportation, and living expenses. A portion of the stipend may be paid directly to the in-country host to support housing, food, and local transportation.
