Dyson Grand Challenges Impact Internship:

The Dyson Grand Challenges Program team will serve as a liaison between the intern and the internship host. The intern, a student employee of Cornell University, will focus on the outlined duties working with a mentor from Shared Kitchen Ithaca. This opportunity is exclusively available to Dyson undergraduates.

Term:

The internship will take place from June 16th, 2025 to August 15, 2025.  On average, the intern should expect to work 25-30 hours per week, totaling around 250 hours for the summer.

Shared Kitchen Ithaca: Business Development and Community Engagement Internship

Internship Purpose: 

This internship will focus on business development, community engagement, and the execution of key initiatives, including a returnable container program with GreenStar Coop. The intern will gain hands-on experience in a startup environment, assisting in various areas such as customer outreach, marketing, and social media presence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help implement customer discovery and needs assessment recommendations through follow-up work with potential and existing members.
  • Engage with current and potential members to assess progress, identify opportunities, and resolve challenges.
  • Provide reports to the Executive Director to support decision-making.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Returnables Program, focusing on marketing, logistics, and community relations.
  • Collaborate with GreenStar Coop and potentially expand the program to other retailers.
  • Help establish and manage SKI’s social media presence.
  • Assist in planning and promoting events and workshops to foster community engagement and brand awareness.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on the progress of the Returnables Program, social media efforts, and other initiatives.
  • Maintain communication with SKI staff and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of business principles and strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in social media management and writing.
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess opportunities and challenges.
  • Enthusiasm for the culinary industry and a passion for community development.
  • Previous experience in business development, marketing, or community engagement is a plus, but not required. An interest in startup ventures is highly encouraged.
