Overview
EDF offers internships and fellowships for students and recent graduates in a variety of programs and departments throughout the organization. The ultimate goal of our internship and fellowship program is to provide high-quality experiences (including relevant projects and opportunities for networking) that form the foundation for any individual who is serious about pursuing an environmental career.
Program/Department Overview
The Office of Chief Scientist (OCS) is the nexus of science at EDF, ensuring that the organization’s goals, strategies, and advocacy are grounded in rigorous, high-quality science. We also seek to identify and operationalize new insights that accelerate progress toward EDF’s goals. To be most effective in these roles, OCS provides programmatic support for all scientists at EDF and fosters relationships with scientists outside the organization. The specific focal area for this position, known as the Climate Innovation Initiative, is co-led by Brian Buma and Alice Alpert, and focuses on identification of key areas for future investigation that align with EDF goals around climate change mitigation and net zero targets.
Overall Function
The intern will contribute to the Climate Technology Innovation initiative by contributing to workshop organization, including but not limited to synthesizing research products, contacting participants, distributing and collecting pre-workshop questions, and contributing to the workshop in their best capacity. These workshops will focus around synthetic biology and carbon capture and utilization, and the intern will get a chance to contribute and participant according to their interests and specialities. The workflow is envisioned to leverage the interns expertise and career goals to best promote both the goals of the initiative and the interns career objectives.
