Overview

Opportunity Description

By choosing to come to Sussex for a term or the whole academic year you will be taking part in a vibrant student experience on a safe and welcoming campus.

What is unique about this program?

Sussex is a top-20 UK university that uses research-led teaching, a unique location and a strong sense of purpose to broaden its students' perspectives. Visiting undergraduate students choose from more than 1,000 modules, taught by world-leading academics, and join a thriving student community.  Cornell and Sussex are also well-connected via on-going collaboration between various faculty and departments.

Surrounded by the South Downs National Park, Sussex is a single-site campus, which means that campus facilities and student services are always easy to reach.  Visiting students are encouraged to explore and join any of the 200+ clubs and societies, sports, and recreation offered throughout the academic year.

What is unique about Brighton?

The entertainment capital of the south coast, Brighton has one of the most active music and arts scenes in Britain, and it's only 10 minutes from campus. Brighton and Hove offer cuisine from around the world in more than 400 restaurants - more per resident than anywhere in the UK outside central London. There are also countless pubs, wine bars, cocktail bars and cafes. The Brighton Festival, England's biggest arts festival, takes place in May. Three mini-festivals - fringe, jazz and comedy - add to the variety. Brighton is less than an hour from London by train - close enough to go for the evening or the day. France is only a ferry ride away from nearby Newhaven, and Gatwick Airport is half an hour away by train.

How do I choose among programs?

  • See the Office of Global Learning’s “Selecting a Program” page for information on program types and considerations
  • Use the search features on the Experience Cornell  Opportunities page to filter for programs approved by your college, and by particular subject areas
  • Go to the “Get Advice” page for information on drop-in advising hours, scheduling an advising appointment, returned student contacts, and college advisors for study abroad
  • Find out about upcoming events, check out FAQs, and read stories from returned study abroad students

How do I apply?

Applying to study abroad is a two-step process. You may complete both steps simultaneously, but the Cornell approval process must be complete before your program advisor in the Office of Global Learning can submit any approval or nomination to the program.

  1. For Cornell Approval, click on the "Apply" button on this webpage. Applications are approved by the Office of Global Learning on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this page.
  2. For Program Admission, complete an external application directly on the program’s webpage, using the link in the “Snapshot” section. (Note: This deadline may be in advance of the general Cornell deadline for approval. Many programs fill by rolling admission.)
