About the Program:

The Global Health Program offers an eight-week summer program in Moshi, Tanzania. Students will enroll in a course at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMU-Co). In this course, students learn about current policy issues and work in teams with KCMU students to develop, negotiate, write, and present a new policy case study. The goals of the Tanzania program are to enhance the cross-cultural competence of participants and to provide students with the opportunity to gain broad knowledge about global health issues in the Tanzanian context.

What's unique about KCMU-Co?

Since 2009, KCMUCo and the Cornell Global Health Program have brought together equal numbers of Cornell students and KCMU medical students to research and write a comprehensive case study addressing a global health issue of relevance to the Kilimanjaro Region. This group work involves literature review and interviews with local relevant stakeholders.

SUMMER 2022 Update: 

At this time, we are unable to confirm the format for the 2022 Global Health Summer Program in Tanzania. We hope that the state of the pandemic will allow for travel next summer, but the final decision will be contingent on travel restrictions and health and safety guidelines. We are considering an in-person or virtual format. Even if we are not able to physically travel to Moshi, we are committed to engaging students in collaborative and cross-cultural experiential learning in collaboration with Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMU-Co).

Living Arrangements (Previous years)

While in Tanzania, student participates in a homestay with a local family. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about life in Tanzanian society and to form strong, lasting relationships with members of the Moshi community. Each student is placed in a homestay with a fellow Cornell student, and all of the homes are located within walking distance of Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University-College (KCMU-Co), where the students are enrolled in a course. Students often find that the most enjoyable moments of their trip are ones spent cooking, shopping, and conversing with their host families.
